“My name is Yoran and I have been working at Bakker Flow Services since February 2019. Starting out as an Allround Equipment Engineer, I have progressed over four years and have been working as a Supervisor Supervisor PCE since July 2023.
After my Mechanical Engineering education ( level 4) in 2021, I completed the Magnetic Particle Inspection MT2 EN473 (ISO9712) course, also called MPI. I grew up in the oil and gas world myself so from a young age this has been my interest. I use the knowledge I gained from before to now on a daily basis.
Every day is different, but an average work day starts with a cup of coffee around 7:00 am. At 7:30 I start my work in the testing department. After checking my mail and seeing what’s on the schedule that day, I check the equipment and, if necessary, perform an MPI or wall thickness measurement.
Once the inspection is complete, I connect the equipment to the test trestle in one of our test bays/bunkers. I process the data from the wall thickness form on the test certificate and start the test. Once the test is successfully completed and the equipment is approved, a new test date is set.
If a leak is found, we take care of the repair. Then we test the equipment again to make sure the repair was successful. After a successful test, I make sure the equipment goes to the spray booth for a new coat of paint. In between, I help my colleagues as needed.
My days are very diverse, but I think on paper I have an average work day. What makes my job really fun is the variety – no day is the same! In addition, we have a positive and fun work atmosphere.”
